My new club has to be small. I manage it myself, alone.
It has to be exclusive – the wines are the antithesis of mass market, big production wines.
It has to be for lovers of exquisite, gastronomique wines, who will understand the subtlety and nuance that comes with Old Vine viticulture.
And most importantly.... It has to be dedicated to a cause.
I could use words like “heritage” and “patrimonie” but let’s keep it simple. The South of France has a unique resource of old, often neglected, small producing, but priceless quality, vines. Unless I and some of my fellow winemakers take action now they will be lost to short term, boring, uniform quality winemaking. I worked my socks off to make Fitou a world class wine and I’m not stopping there.
Your vine asks me to tell you it’s waiting for you.
“When Katie asked me if I’d like to rescue an old vine I jumped at the chance. I chose Claudia (she’s magnificent!) and love seeing how she’s getting on throughout the growing season. Great wine starts in the vineyard and this scheme is a wonderful way to get involved.”
